Alex Dehner Receives Mac Crutchfield Scholarship


Coach Alex began swimming in Tallahassee, FL and continued swimming for 13 years. During his time at the Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club (ATAC) he competed at National and Olympic Trial levels. Alex was the Chiles High School state runner-up in 2012 and was a Scholastic All-American all four seasons. He earned an athletic scholarship from the University of Florida, where he swam until 2015 before being required to medically retire from swimming. While at the University of Florida, Alex was an Academic All-American (2013-2014, 2014-2015) and earned SEC Honor Roll (2013-2014, 2014-2015). After retiring from swimming, he continued his passion and pursued his dream career in coaching, while finishing his degree.

Accompanied with his previous five years of experience as Assistant Coach for Terry Maul (ATAC), Alex continued his career in coaching at the Gator Swim Club where he served as the Head Age Group Coach, Interim Head Coach and Volunteer Assistant Coach for the University of Florida. Alex has coached all levels of swimmers from novice to Olympic Trials.

Alex is a ASCA Level II, Certified Weightlifting and Sports Performance Coach, Eagle Scout (earned at age 16) and Certified RedCross Water Safety Instructor.
